Anyone that has seen Bring It On (Check my review out here) will automatically have an idea as to what this film is about. Anyone that loves Bring It On (like me) will also love Pitch Perfect. In fact, the pitch is far from perfect, yet this film is a majestic and wondrous experience (well maybe not but you get how much I love it). I had avoided this film like the plague for the best part of three years when I finally caved in. I hate the majority of films aimed at teenagers, so presumed this was like the rest (She's All That, to give one example), and that was the reason I resisted. Now, after watching it, even thinking about writing this review makes me want to watch it again (and again, and again etc etc).
Beca (Kendrick) is a freshman at Barden University, where her father is a professor. Forced to take part in school activities, Beca joins an all female a capella singing group called The Bellas. Run by the highly strung and exceedingly bossy, Aubrey (Camp), Beca struggles to fit in. When faced with the competiotn of their lives, against The Treble's, Barden's all male singing group Beca becomes what the group really needed. A fresh face and new energy.
I know I have already mentioned Bring It On, but I really felt like Pitch Perfect is the Bring It On of this generation. It is practically the same story. A school/university group of young adults have a club, they have to go to a national competition to win and prove that they are the best at what they do.
The part in the film when Beca plays the cups was so popular that the director decided to make a full length music video showing the entire song played on 'cups'. That video is posted above.
