So lately, it would seem, I have become a lackadaisical loser as far as my website has been concerned. I haven't updated any posts in quite a while. I haven't really been lazy, I have had other projects on the go, but felt it was time to update... In between my last post and this one, I have watched at least 21 films. I'll never catch up with all these.
Thank god for Letterbox'd is all I can say. I've written something about my feelings for each of those films over on their website, so, I'm planning on cheating... (My Letterbox'd profile is here btw - http://letterboxd.com/bollydophie2014/)
I'm just going to copy and paste my LBD reviews and hope that will suffice until I can get back into writing what I should be writing on a more regular basis.

The Girl Next Door 2007
★★★★
Watched Mar 10, 2015
Joanne Myers’s review:This film is quite disturbing. To find out it was based on true events (albeit very loosely) made it all the more compelling to watch. In the sense that I had to see what happened (not knowing anything of the original story).
*****spoilers*****
The fact that the boys went along with it and didn't question the behaviour at all was appalling.

Elfie Hopkins 2012 ½ Reviewed 10 Apr, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:Jaime Winstone in a film is a big no-no from the start. The girl can not act to save her life (feel free to point me to a film that proves otherwise)... The fact that she was also the main star made this even worse... Don't watch it... | Penance 2009 ★★ Watched Apr 09, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:An all star cast... A found footage film... Torture Porn as the main subject... The three things did not mix well for me at all... Avoid this film, it fails miserably... A found footage torture porn film should disgust me to the point of never wanting to watch it again, but this was appalling and the only reason I don't want to watch it again is because it was shite... |
Forget Me Not 2009

Joanne Myers’s review:Middle of the road rating for a middle of the road film.
I liked the idea behind the film but was not impressed with its execution. It definitely left a lot to be desired.

Grave Encounters 2011 ★★★ Reviewed 10 Apr, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:I've seen this film a couple of times before on the Horror Channel UK. It's a found footage film. As far as FF films go its not bag, however, on its third or fourth viewing, it sort of looses its charm. | Grave Encounters 2 2012 ½ Reviewed 10 Apr, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:I turned this film off after about half an hour. The idea was awful and it takes far too long to get into the actual setting. The idea of linking back to the first film would be a good one, if it actually works. Which this doesn't. |
Jumper 2008
★★★★
Rewatched Apr 08, 2015
Joanne Myers’s review:This was my second viewing of Jumper. I watched it years ago when it first came out and I enjoyed it then. I also enjoyed it this time. It's definitely a mindless film... Leave your brain at the door and enjoy a senseless film.
Hayden's acting isn't the best, but he's definitely easy on the eye... Jamie Bell is annoying. But his character is meant to be like that. I can't take him serious as a grown up actor after his role as Billy Elliott.

Bloodwork 2012 ★★★ Reviewed 10 Apr, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:So apprantly this film is called Bloodwork. When I watched it (through Amazon Instants UK) it was called The Last Experiment. However, both titles are fitting so I suppose that point is mute. As far as these type of gory horrors go, it was alright. Nothing special to write home about, but nothing really bad that I need to warn everyone to avoid it. If you like gory, bloody horrors, this is probably for you. I don't. They managed to get the line just about right between just enough so that it's relevant and not too much blood and gore making it watchable for someone that doesn't like gory horrors | Nine Dead 2010 ★★★½ Reviewed 10 Apr, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:I read the description of this film and saw Melissa Joan Hart's name in the cast and I sighed. I really expected this to be an awful film, however, it turned out to be a lot better. It's a decent little mystery thriller, and although MJH just kept making me think of Sabrina throughout the whole film, she actually put on a decent performance. |
Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb 2014
★★★★
Reviewed 10 Apr, 2015
Joanne Myers’s review:I didn't enjoy either of the first two NatM films, yet I really liked this one. It kept me entertained all the way through, and I didn't even find Ben Stiller annoying like I normally do.
As far as sequel's go, this is definitely one of the better ones out there, and its not often someone can say that.

Fear Island 2009 ★★★★ Watched Apr 10, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:Today I watched a film called Fear Island on Amazon. It was released in 2009 and is a horror/thriller. As far as teenage films go it has a fairly decent cast, Hailey Duff and Lucy Hale but that's about as far as it goes. The acting was standard. What you would expect to see in a teenage horror flick. What I did like about it was the story. It started off a bit same-y to all others in its genre but after sticking with it, definitely came out on top. If you like mindless teenage horrors then give this a go :) | Zombie Massacre 2013 ½ Watched Apr 10, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:I love a low budget film but this is just appalling. The zombies/infected looked like they could have been stand ins for members of kiss. Definitely not a movie I would recommend to anyone. The idea behind the story is good, but the execution is poor. Even for a low budget. They could have done so muh more. The girl mercenary is the worst actress I think I've ever seen. She has even less expression than Kristen Stewart and Hayden Christiansen put together. Go figure. But don't watch it. Please. |
Fifty Dead Men Walking 2008
★★★½
Reviewed 26 Apr, 2015
Joanne Myers’s review:I love films about or centred around the IRA. I have no idea why. It's not a very nice topic to actually enjoy but I find it fascinating.
50 Dead Men comes with a number of stars that I recognise from various British TV shows.
It focuses on an IRA volunteer that is working undercover for the police/authorities.
The acting in this wasn't spectacular nor did I find it particularly bad. It was definitely a medium performance from the main actor.
The story had some interest but I felt that it seemed to lose its way and that it could have been better orchestrated.

The Adjustment Bureau 2011 ★★★★ Reviewed 26 Apr, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:When watching this I wasn't sure whether I'd seen it before or not. Even after seeing the entire film I still couldn't remember so I either hadn't enjoyed it first time, didn't pay attention or clearly hadn't seen it before. I'm still not certain which option out of those it was. So I'm going to go with a first time watch. I really enjoyed tab. I found its story to be interesting enough to keep me going the entire way through. The acting was on par for Matt Damon's usual performances. My only issue with this film is Emily Blunt. That stems from not liking her. She looks too much like Zooey Deschanel. | The Tortured 2010 ★½ Reviewed 26 Apr, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:Meh, meh and meh. That's the only way I could explain my feelings for this film. It was watchable at the very least. The idea behind the story was good, but Jesse????? really. They could have picked someone who can act. He sure as hell can't. Watch it if you're bored and got nothing else to watch. At all. I'd rather watch kids programs, on my own, than have to watch this again. And the worse thing is, I've seen it before. |
Battle Royale 2000
★★★★
Rewatched Apr 19, 2015
Joanne Myers’s review:This is like the Hunger Games on steroids. It's also a really good film. Holds up after a second or even third watch.

Hello, Dolly! 1969 ★★★ Watched Apr 26, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:I like Musicals. However, I don't like ones that are just short of 3 hours long. For what it is, its a decent film and Streisand isn't a bad singer. Just wasn't for me. | The Cabin in the Woods 2012 ★★★½ Rewatched Apr 22, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:Here we go! A decent horror film. One that actually holds up and is still good on a second viewing. The story was really good... The acting wasn't all that bad (Chris H I'm looking at you). I loved the idea behind the 'cabin' and how it all ended up the way it ended up. If you haven't seen it, then watch it as soon as you can. |
Husk 2011
★★
Reviewed 26 Apr, 2015
Joanne Myers’s review:Why do I subject myself to such awful films?
Scarecrows? Fields of Corn? Like this hasn't been done a million times before, and a million times better than Husk.
The acting was horrendous. If it was a college project, it would be a brilliant film. Amateur actors, crappy idea, made by none professionals... sounds good... but as a mainstream movie, that's a definite no no in my book.

5ive Girls 2006 ★★ Reviewed 26 Apr, 2015 Joanne Myers’s review:Ron, Ron, Ron. Sigh. What were you doing in this film. Were you running low on cash? This is another one where I really liked the idea, but the film sank. Quick and deep. |
